Unagi Eel Nigiri Recipe

Unagi Eel Nigiri is a traditional Japanese dish made up of a grilled eel slice on top of a small ball of sushi rice. It's a tasty and flavorful sushi that's simple to make at home.

Ingredients

Time Needed

  • Prep Time: 30 minutes
  • Cook Time: 25 minutes
  • Total Time: 55 minutes

Instructions

  • Wash and drain the sushi rice thoroughly.
  • Bring the rice and water to a boil in a pot.
  • Simmer for 18 minutes on low heat.
  • Allow to cool for 10 minutes after removing from the heat.
  • In a small saucepan, combine rice vinegar, sugar, and salt and heat until dissolved.
  • Spread the cooked rice out flat and top with the vinegar mixture.
  • Combine thoroughly.
  • Make 1/2-inch slices of unagi eel.
  • Make small rectangles out of the nori sheets.
  • Form small rice balls with your hands after dipping them in water.
  • On each rice ball, place a slice of unagi eel.
  • Wrap a rectangle of nori seaweed around each rice ball.
  • Serve with wasabi paste and soy sauce on the side.
