Salmon Nigiri Sushi Recipe

Salmon nigiri sushi is a traditional Japanese dish made up of a small mound of sushi rice topped with a slice of fresh salmon. The combination of tender, slightly sweet rice and salty, fatty salmon is simply delicious.

Ingredients

Time Needed

  • Prep Time: 30 minutes
  • Cook Time: 20 minutes
  • Total Time: 50 minutes

Instructions

  • Rinse the sushi rice with cold water until it is clear.
  • In a saucepan, bring the rice and water to a boil.
  • Reduce to a low heat, cover, and leave to cook for 18-20 minutes.
  • Allow to cool for 10 minutes after removing from the heat.
  • Combine rice vinegar, sugar, and salt in a small bowl.
  • Transfer the rice to a large mixing bowl and gently fold in the vinegar mixture with a spatula.
  • Allow the rice to come to room temperature.
  • Form small oblong shapes of rice with wet hands, about 2 tablespoons each.
  • Place a slice of salmon and a small amount of wasabi paste on top of each.
  • Serve with soy sauce on the side.
