Shrimp Maki Sushi Roll Recipe

The Shrimp Maki Sushi Roll is a traditional sushi roll made with cooked shrimp, cucumber, and avocado wrapped in seasoned sushi rice and nori seaweed. This recipe yields 8 rolls, making it ideal for a sushi dinner party or a fun weekend meal.

Instructions

  • Rinse the sushi rice several times in clean water.
  • In a medium saucepan, bring the rice and water to a boil.
  • Reduce the heat to low, cover, and cook for 18-20 minutes, or until the water has been absorbed and the rice is tender.
  • Remove the pan from the heat and set aside for 10 minutes, covered.
  • Whisk together the rice vinegar, sugar, and salt in a small bowl until the sugar dissolves.
  • Transfer the rice to a large mixing bowl and gently stir in the vinegar mixture.
  • Place a sheet of nori, shiny side down, on a sushi mat.
  • Wet your hands and spread about 1/2 cup rice over the nori, leaving a 1-inch border on top.
  • Arrange 2 shrimp, cucumber slices, and avocado slices on top of the rice.
  • Roll the mat up, gently pressing to make a tight roll.
  • Repeat with the remaining nori, rice, shrimp, cucumber, and avocado to make another roll.
  • Slice the rolls and serve with pickled ginger, soy sauce, and wasabi.
